An urgent project made to be a part of my college portfolio, a collaboration with a friend LR7 & EN1GMAT1C (myself) within 4 weeks.

We used the Tesseract game engine to model and make coolio edits together.  It’s an open-source engine, a fork of Cube 2: Sauerbraten engine with realtime light & shadow calculations and rendering as you edit.

I needed something fast, easy to use, and immediate rendering because using Autodesk Maya wasn’t going to help. I literally had 3 months to complete my portfolio, but due to time restraints and many other projects that needed my attention, this map project was set aside until the last minute, leaving me with less of other projects to work on and leaving us with 1 month left.

It was frustrating at first because Tesseract doesn’t seem to have actual documentation for it, however, many commands were almost the same/equal to Sauerbraten and a couple of hours of page searching and reading the docs for Sauerbraten’s engine, I eventually found out how to use commands to edit/rotate models, create lights/effects, moving sun direction and more in Tesseract.

As soon as we found out how to do what we need, we sped right through. Lots of modeling, moving and rotating mapmodels, texture placement and A LOT of moving the sundir and proper lighting. Such sweet relief that we finished with even a bit of time to spare. End results impressed the class along with my instructor and portfolio judges.

A nice shout out to wizard for explaining how lighting works, thank you friend!

-Instructions to extract the files to-

Windows:
-Select all folders (map, model, sky & texture) and extract to “media” folder:

C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Tesseract\media\

Linux:
-Extract to:
~/.tesseract/media

-Overwrite when asked. It won’t actually overwrite any existing files, just add folders.
-Run Tesseract, go to Map Browser>Custom and select “Temple”
